Thread: R&B

    Default R&B

I know there's plenty of rap haters here, but what are your views of R&B?

Personally, I can't imagine my music collection without it. I love it...Next, Alicia Keys, Usher, Mariah Carey, R.Kelly, etc. It's easy listening most of the times, but nowadays R&B has some hip-hop beats to them. This trend started around the early 90's and I've never grown tired of it.

For the most part I don't like it. I usually find myself asking "where is the melody?"

    I don't like rap and I don't like R&B even more. Sorry.

    R&B is alright with me.

Apparently, I have been declared banished.

I'm kind of surprised with the responses so far. I'd figure the same people who hate rap would give R&B higher praise because R&B generally has little to no profanity and is often about soul and love.

I'm surprised people who hate rap for its lyrics would give R&B a lower rating.

I like funky stuff. I hate Mariah Carey. She's taken a gift and squandered it, I believe.

But I don't expect anyone to agree.

    Signature by rubah. I think.

I agree...to a degree. She has a great voice, and most of her music is R&B, but that was early in the her career up to her album Butterfly. She's a mix of pop-R&B now.

I'm more or an old school sort of fellow, so would you consider the funk/motown era groups such as The Temptations and Earth, Wind And Fire to be R&B?

    Take care all.

Next is kind of like that, but lean closer to hip-hop. I guess I would consider that Soul rather than R&B...kind of like Michael McDonald. I love those old school stuff.

All righty, I'm a HUGE fan of Soul then.

I've listened to quite a bit of more current R&B and most of it is enjoyable enough, but I guess my heart is just with the older bands and groups.

    Take care all.

I really like R&B. Alicia Keys is probably one of my favourites. Some of Usher's songs I like. R.Kelly has a really nice voice too. If Ashanti's classed as R&B, then her as well

    Is Destinys Child R&B?

Yeah, the music industry classes them as R&B, but they do have some hip-hop beats to them.

I've been meaning to get Usher's first CD too.

I don't buy R&B records, but my sister is a fan of the genre, and my mother enjoys the motown groups The Captain mentioned. It's fun to listen to when we're in the car together, and while I wouldn't say I'm a fan as such, I respect and admire the artists as much as those of any genre.
