Default Pope dying. Update: Died on Sat, April 2nd at 7:37pm GMT.

The 8 o'clock news here just got the message that Pope John Paul II is "agonizing", which, to put it midly, means he's living his last moments and most likely won't survive the night.

Don't know what else to add or discuss other than pay my respect, regardless of the difference of opinions. If you're here to bash us Catholics/Christians or him, just go away.

Edit: it also means that if you're going to be disrespectful, you can also go away. Make your own thread, but leave that one alone.

I just heard it... he's dead.

I take that back. FOX News says he's dead, but his heart and brain are still functioning; CNN says he lost conciousness.

So he's only mostly dead, I guess.

To be honest, I really don't care if he's dead or alive.

It should be any hour now if it hasn't happened yet. My dad is flying over to Italy with a news troop, so that means even if he has not passed away yet, it's only a matter of time unfortunately.

He was a good leader for the Church, and even while I didn't agree with him in many instances, I respect him for his leadership, devotion and compassion to his people and his values.

    Take care all.

Regardless of his exact condition now, it is really just a matter of time. I don't have any doubt that he served his duties with dedication and conviction.
I'm wondering who's the next in line for this position.

I'm not of the Catholic denomination, nor am I a Christian, for that matter, but the Pope is another human being and it's sad to see him, or anyone, go.

He's had to deal with the responsibilty of such a position of authority and importance for so many years, and while I think a new Pope should have been chosen some time ago, I have respect for him for sticking it out until the end.

    Take care, Pope.

I just heard the Vatican officials denied that he's dead. As others said, it's a matter of short time now, and I agree with Destai.

They don't have a successor lined up, I don't think. Usually a congress of Cardinals is called to the Vatican to meet and select the next Pope.

He's not officially declared dead by the Vatican, so maybe there is still hope. But I doubt it, because they do say he is on his death bed.
