I do firmly believe that competitions conducted in THIS manner, where looks are not the ultimate judgment of someone, are important because it does allow us to look deeper into who people are, which in a lot of cases today seems to be glazed over or ignored entirely and replaced with just judgments passed on what we view through the superficial lenses of image and appearance.
