now what may or not been known is that FF IX was originally intended to be a sequal to another FF game, but what isnt specified is which one...
so what other FF game could this one followed up to?

o_O I hadn't heard that. But it's most deffinitely not 7 or 8. And hardly 6. Too much industrial-ness in those games. I'd guess 2, 4, or 5. Haven't played much of 2 so I can't really say much on that. And 5 spans more than one world, even though some of it does have to do with crystals I'd have to negate that one too. So my bet is 4, which has a lot to do with crystals. And 9 had not much to do with crystals, except it's look had this crystal theme. The castle had a huge crystal and the crystal was in the logo. So there was a focus on crystals for some reason. But I still can't see it, or any other FF as an actual sequal or prequal to any of the others. (Barring X-2 of course.)
I gues thats just rummor. FFIX is a tribute to the old school games, having many references to them, but I cant imagine it being a sequel.now what may or not been known is that FF IX was originally intended to be a sequal to another FF game, but what isnt specified is which one...
No, I can't imagine it being a sequel. It had alot of references to past games, that was the point of it. But if I REALLY had to pick something I'd say 1.
Oh, and Vyk, the Crystal theme in IX becomes aparant towards the end of the game.
(SPOILER)Kuja trys to destroy the Crystal that sustains all existence in the Universe, or something.
I agree, if anyone, definitely Final Fantasy I.Originally Posted by Jellisaurus

Who actually (SPOILER)turned out to be the final boss in FF1Originally Posted by Alexander
Nobody has mentioned Lich, Kraken, Tiamet or the....Red...one. They were all in FF1. or that Vivi bears a striking resemblance to the Black mage from FF1, or that The Black mage village features in FF4 (i think)

FFIX=FFIV!!!!
Alexandria was a kingdom that attacked other kingdoms -> in ff4 the kingdom where cecil was from attacked other kingdoms
Both games had final bosses that weren´t mentioned anywhere in the game
in both games, the "you-tought-to-be-the-final-boss" was the main characters brother.
Oh! and also, in both games when you go to another planet you meet a lot of relatives
Etc... just look for a thread something like: Isn´t ffix like ff iv (or something like that)
Btw, both games have crystals..
It's a sequel to 8, because 9 comes after 8 DUH!
I like Kung-Fu.
if so then it is FF2 cos it seems to be about the same from what i hav playedOriginally Posted by Sunny Rabbiera
to die would be a great adventure
- peter pan (the true book)
life is but a shadow of death, spiraling endlessly.
- seymore (FFX)
I can only imagine this came from a rumor from before FFVIII was released. The idea was that Square was developing FFVIII and FFIX at the same time; FFVIII would be Squall's story, and FFIX would be Laguna's story.
In any case, FFIX isn't a direct sequel to any other game, nor was it ever intended to be.
