i feel the same way you do, but sometimes you migh want ot change it for specific reasons, trust me...
The only time I've ever changed a name was in FFTA, because the clan name was just stupid. Besides, considering that RPGs now have voice acting, if they disabled the option to rename charaters, every character's name would be written into the script. Having Tidus never being referred to by name in FFX was very annoying.
