Thread: This is ANNOYING.

I don't see the problem with quotes in quotes. I'd use them anyways given the [ qq ] tag, which is as far as I usually care to go. QQs are simple and effective ways to keep track of what one is responding to, especially in a long thread. If someone abuses it, just warn them or something.

I double-posted purposely when commenting on a drawing. I first put in a post with a crappy drawing I made to emphasize my lack of talent while saying, "Yours is good for what it is."
I then posted below it, "I like the Gungrave drawing."
The above statement was referring to two previous drawings, so if I put the Gungrave comment in the same post in anywhere, it wouldn't have made as much sense. I guess I could've waited until someone else posted.

I agree about the quote pyramids. I don't like to see them. A lot of the quoters around here are "little kids" who don't take the time to edit out the unnecessary crap of what they're quoting. I take my sweet time editing EVERY-SINGLE THING I post. I even delete my posts quite often if they bear no relevance for some reason or someone else said it better than me.

    By the way:

    Jack: How do you know?

Will: It's more of a feeling really.

Jack: Well, that's not scientific. Feeling isn't knowing. Feeling is believing. If you believe it, you can't know because there's no knowing what you believe. Then again, no one should believe what they know either. Once you know anything that anything becomes unbelievable if only by virtue of the fact you now... know it. You know?

    Will: No.

If Demolition Man were remade today

Huxley: What's wrong? You broke contact.
Spartan: Contact? I didn't even touch you.
Huxley: Don't you want to make love?
Spartan: Is that what you call this? Why don't we just do it the old-fashioned way?
    Huxley: NO!
    Spartan: Whoa! Okay, calm down.
Huxley: Don't tell me to calm down!
Spartan: What's gotten into you? 'Cause it sure as hell wasn't me.
Huxley: Physical relations in the way of intercourse are no longer acceptable John Spartan.
Spartan: What? Why the hell not?
Huxley: It's the law, John. And for your information, the very idea that you suggested it makes me feel personally violated.
Spartan: Wait a minute... violated? Huxley what the hell are you accusing me of here?
Huxley: You need to leave, John.
    Spartan: But Huxley.
    Huxley: Get out!
Moments later Spartan is arrested for "violating" Huxley.

By the way, that's called satire. Get over it.

Leeza, after seeing those hideously big and ugly pyramids in this thread, I totally agree with you.
Please tell me what the devil is so ugly or wrong about simple quotes-within-quotes such as this. Also please provide me with some links to this apparent epidemic of enormous quote-pyramids, because I haven't seen any but I'd be happy to take care of those for you.
Now if I had just quoted and edited so that only your post would show, this would be good, but most people won't bother going in to edit out the quotes that are not needed and then you end up with stuff like this. I think this post looks ugly, but I guess ugly is all in the eye of the beholder.

I glad you volunteered for the job.
This is about the point where it starts getting annoying.

Also, I think we should call them Ziggurats rather than Pyramids.

Considering the sometimes nicessity of context, why not just limit the number of pyramid levels? I think quoting a quote is as far as it should go. Because then you're responding to someone's response to someone else. If that person was originally responding, then context would be too complicated to even matter at that point. Not that I like pyramids, but I can understand a need to keep things in perspective in a debate, especially if you're targetting how someone responded or something instead of just rebutting a point. I think 2 levels would be plenty enough... But I'm just the newbie ^^

Yeah, those quote pyramids are pretty ugly.

I was just surfing through other threads and noticed this. I think it's a good example (and just an example) where context can play a part.

Responding to responses. Granted, the original quote becomes unnecissary, but again, that's why I say only two levels are needed. But I do see the value in quoting quotes. At least from time to time

I think Kishi's right. The practicality and ease-of-use of multi-quoting is really nice, and I was pleased to see it implemented. In fact, I'd always wondered, up to that point, why EoFF hadn't had it in the first place. Is it possible to simply limit it to a small number, such as 3 quotes? If not, then I think using the warn system is good enough, and repeat offenders should get a warning themselves, much like with double posting or oversized signatures.
