    Default Spyware

Anybody know a good program to remove spyware for free. And what I can set up to prevent it. I am quite computer illiterate.

As soon as you download and install it, update and then immunize.

Immunization protects from crepe loads of spyware and bad webpages, so its very nice.

Adaware doesn't immunize though, nor does it keep track of the registry with an equivalent of teatimer.

...Well, it does, but you have to pay for it, and why do that if you can get the same thing for free.

Thanks a bunch. Um I have a question, what is a firewall, what does it do, and how do I set one up?

grc.com did a test of a few major spyware removing programs and Adaware did more of a complete job than Spybot s&d. The best method is to get both Spybot and Adaware and use both.

Install, run, it'll ask you if you want to check for updates, choose to do so, then click on "start", choose if you want a smart system scan (specific folders that are the usual target + the registry) or everything, or custom, or ADS (check the help file for details). Negligible entries are things like the last programs you ran list and stuff, ou can uncheck that one. Click on next and it'll scan, when it's done, you can review the findings and select which you want to quarantine/delete/keep.

    And then there is Death
