Part of that stereotype I believe, comes from the concept that people who play video games ONLY play video games and do little else, which would probably lead to someone being overweight and/or lazy. Yet, as others have said, stereotypes are never completely correct because they are assumptions made on shallow aspects of people, never taking into account the complete person. Most people here treat the games as a hobby, some more than others, but so long as you also lead an active life, it's perfectly fine in my opinion.

An interesting stereotype when you think about it. I mean, what about other passtimes that involve your body being sedentary but aren't frowned upon? If I told someone I was an avid reader and I sit around reading all day, would they say "omg u fat n lazy!!".

I'm 180lbs, and far from overweight, and in great shape. Final Fantasy happens to be a big interest of mine, as well as sports, weightlifting, getting stronger, and overall good fitness and health. I even typically play final fantasy after the gym.
Stereotyping like that is ridiculous.

I'm overweight by strict Eurpoean guidelines, but I am by no stretch of the imagination what most people consider fat, at least here in the states.
I'm also not lazy. I've a full time job, then I come home, cook, clean and take care of my pregnant wife. I also train regularly in preparation of a martial arts rank test I'm soon to take.
