Douglas Adams did write the screenplay. Apparently, he didn't want the movie to be done. Something like "Over my dead body" is probably the utterance he procured concerning the issue.

Now he's dead and we're all going to go and watch the movie that he didn't want us to see because he didn't deem it good enough.

Let us march on and desecrate the rotting corpse of a man (An atheist for heaven's sake) who we all seem to admire and respect. Meanwhile, we can feed his enemies and not have an extremely enjoyable time!!!!
(Because I guarantee you that the movie will not measure up)
