Anyway, I'm pretty annoyed and a tad disappointed in how some of you have approached Avril's music and this issue in general. You over-analyze stuff. "Omg this girl is an emo kid who smashes guitars, I hate her music" Wait, you hate her music because she smashes guitars she's never touched before? That sounds reasonable. Why don't you try listening to the music and make an opinion out of what you hear through songs instead of what other tells you. Music is music. I'm not going to dislike someone's music just because I don't like the person. I actually like a lot of 80's music, but oh how horrible they all looked and acted.
Knowing you people, you're probably going to think that I like Avril and her music and that I'm trying to defend her. Well, you're 33% right. I don't care about how she acts, that's none of my business, I don't like her music, It's just not my style (her songs is a bit boring), but I am defending her, because she's got a lot of undeserved trash thrown at her. Grow up.
Giving your support to someone who you feel goes against your values or whatever moral hullaballo you want to use because you like the product they're trying to sell you is douchery. That's like... some kind of an example I would think of if it wasn't five in the morning. Something about being a sell out or tool or something I'm sure. It's like, "Hey, you lie about stuff to make money and think you're more important than you really are. Here's $20! Hooray!"

Ok, say it turned out Kirk Hammet didn't write a single one of those Metallica solos, it was all "co-written" - sure, he could perform it, but I'd be pissed off that the guy had become one of the world's most well known guitarists by claiming he had written all this material himself when he blatantly hadn't. Why? Because I can, dammit.
As for the music, well each to their own, it appeals to those it's targeted at - teenage girls with "relationship issues" who want to be "different"(and no offense to them, but you're a demographic, we all fit into at least one), and it's not my thing at all. So I don't like her music because I think the lyrics are horribly poor and I don't like how she makes false claims, I wouldn't say that was undeserved trash, just trash. Or, my opinion. Which is basically the point of a message board, no?

Yeah, a lot of people I know thinks like that, and it annoys me. Especially when the music in question is actually good(Obviously not in this case). I find it horribly stupid to "dislike" music that you like just because the person singing it happens to prefer a different brand of tea than what you do.

Maybe you didn't read my entire post, so I'll cut my opinion into one sentence: It's perfectly fine to dislike a person for what he has done, but "disliking" music you actually like is hypocratic. So I wouldn't mind if you disliked the metallica guy for not writing his own lyrics, but I'd find it annoying if you decided to bash his music even though you actually would've liked it.
And when I said she had gotten a lot of undeserved trash thrown at her, I didn't say that some of the trash wasn't deserved, because some of the trash really was deserved.

I think that supporting something that you think is wrong because it sounds/looks/feels/smells pretty is wrong. To me, buying the CDs of someone you think is a liar and a manufactured fraud is the same thing as... dammit, now it's 5:08am and my brain has shut off. The best example I can think of right now would be buying perfume that contains dead whale products 'cause you like the smell. I don't approve of killing whales, and I don't approve of being a fake. So I don't support those things.
So which is more "grown up": (1) Hearing something that sounds good, perhaps, but is based on a system of manufacturing entertainers that you disapprove of, along with promoting someone who you have found to be a fraud, then ignoring those things because, hey, it sounds good or (2) Taking the time to find out who or what you're giving your money to for the sake of standing by your morals?
Again, it's after five in the morning, so I apologize if that's hard to follow. When Ashley wakes up I'm sure she'll word it better. xD

That's called boycotting. You can still boycott something and like it at the same time. I'm just saying that denying that you like something even though you like it is hypocritical. I still stand by what I said about music though. Music should be listened to with an unbiased opinion, and then judge it for what it's worth based on the song solely. Sure, other opinions may come afterwards about the artist or whatever, but the song itself will not change, so why should your opinion about it do? I agree with you on the whale thing though, I'd boycott it, but I'd probably still like it, but probably not because it's dead whales, and they don't smell particular good, and I'm a male so I don't wear perfume.
