Question.
If you and your significant other goes out with your friend and his/her significant other, and you order a table of 4, how would you be seated?

If the friend is male (which he is), do I sit across from him or sit diagonally from him? What if it was a female friend?
I'd keep it exactly how you have it in your example diagram. Or I'd simply not look too much into it. As long as you're sitting by your date, it doesn't matter much where the other people sit.
I would sit beside BJ, and the other couple would sit accross from us. I usually sit next to BJ even when it's just the two of us anyway.
Are we talking about a booth, a square table or a round table?
you should sit across from your sig other and beside your friend's sig other that way you can look into your sig other's eyes plus you can get to know your friend's sig other better. The same applies to you friend and his sig other.
But if you're sitting accross from your beau it's harder to molest him under the table.
Never been on a double date.. Hadn't really thought about it. I would imagine I'd want to sit next to my girl either way though. And the female would have to sit across from her, wether it's the friend or the date. Don't want anyone playing footsie with my woman ;P Though she does have lesbian tendencies... But being a guy I of course don't mind those...

I'd do it more or less the way you suggested, dingo.
that way, no one can think about being jealous if someone is sitting too close to their girl/guy or whatnotX.x;
because the most important thing in life is to stay in your comfort zone as much as possible.
