You mean Edward? Edgar was in FFVI, and he was awesome.

I'd have to say Edward ranks pretty high on the list of bad characters. Aeris would also rank pretty high, although part of my contempt for her is all the annoying fans swooning over her death--boo hoo, shut up and get over it. Strago was pretty bad as well. And out of FFX, Kimahri would definitely have to be the worst, just because there's no use for him.
