Default Having problems with my ps2, need help.

Just recently my PS2 has refused to play my PSOne games yet it plays all DvD's and PS2 games on the first attempt. Could somebody please tell me what is wrong with it and how I can fix it? I can't return the PS2 as it was previously owned by another person and they removed the little VOID sticker on the back : / so if I need to open the console and adjust anything, I can do so without worrying about that warrenty.

Ok, so here's the dealio about my PS2. I called that number and talked to a representitive about my system and they asked me all these questions and they finally told me this.

"It seems that your console is out of warrenty(No duh) but we have 2 solutions for you. One, you can send in your console and pay by Credit card or Debit card for a fee of $45.00 and have the system repaired or replaced with a new one, or two you can send in the system with a check or money order for $83.23 and have the system checked and have broken parts replaced."

: / I don't have a credit card number and I'm definitly not paying that much money for a "Checkup", I might as well trade in my console for about $50-60 at EB and save my money up and get a PS2 slim.

hmm- if the console is faulty it will cause more problems trading it to EB!

I know for a fact certain psone games will not run on a ps2 (the original time crisis for example wont load at all). Are you sure its every single psone game that wont work?

I would never advise attempting repair on a console, it can cause a lot of problems. This is particularly true with the ps2 where they put a lot of effort into making it tamper proof. I'd just pay to have it replaced I guess, or buy a new one if its cheaper.

Here is the list of PSOne games I've tried playing that didn't work.

    1. Final Fantasy VII
    2. Final Fantasy VIII
    3. Final Fantasy V
    4. Final Fantasy IX
    5. Metal Gear Solid
    6. Monster Rancher: Card Battle

All of these used to work...

I remember hearing something about ps2s having problems playing blue or black discs after a time, depending on your system. Ps1 discs are black so that there is your problem.

Luckily I have had my ps2 for 4-5 years and still no problems yet

Does the screen turn red and say, "Please insert a ps1 or ps2 disc now" or does it stay black and just refuse to load?

No, sometimes I get a "Disk read error" and sometimes the Disk will show up as being read and when I click on the CD icon the screen just goes Black and that's it.. : (

PS2 games that worked..All of them:

    1. MGS 3: Snaker Eater
    2. RE:Oubreak
    3. GTA: Vice City
    4. Final Fantasy X-2
    5. KillZone

The console gods are angry! Appease them by making a burnt offering of your ffx-2! Quick! Its the only way!

edit:How old is your ps2? It could just be suffering from old age. Either way its a problem with your ps2 and you need to replace it. Btw, don't buy one used. Alot of people sell things because there is something wrong with them.

    lol but I like FFX-2.

Anyways, the system is about a year and a half, two years old.

If it was previously owned then that could be a major problem.

My original PS2 stopped playing FF7,8,9, Jet Moto 2, THPS, THPS2, and even some of my PS2 games, though it played DVD's just fine, except for those that I got from magazines.

PS2 Slim can play practically anything. I never thought I'd love it.

Thing's freakin' tiny. You could so easily throw it at someone you despise.
    Jack: How do you know?

Will: It's more of a feeling really.

Jack: Well, that's not scientific. Feeling isn't knowing. Feeling is believing. If you believe it, you can't know because there's no knowing what you believe. Then again, no one should believe what they know either. Once you know anything that anything becomes unbelievable if only by virtue of the fact you now... know it. You know?

    Will: No.

If Demolition Man were remade today

Huxley: What's wrong? You broke contact.
Spartan: Contact? I didn't even touch you.
Huxley: Don't you want to make love?
Spartan: Is that what you call this? Why don't we just do it the old-fashioned way?
    Huxley: NO!
    Spartan: Whoa! Okay, calm down.
Huxley: Don't tell me to calm down!
Spartan: What's gotten into you? 'Cause it sure as hell wasn't me.
Huxley: Physical relations in the way of intercourse are no longer acceptable John Spartan.
Spartan: What? Why the hell not?
Huxley: It's the law, John. And for your information, the very idea that you suggested it makes me feel personally violated.
Spartan: Wait a minute... violated? Huxley what the hell are you accusing me of here?
Huxley: You need to leave, John.
    Spartan: But Huxley.
    Huxley: Get out!
Moments later Spartan is arrested for "violating" Huxley.

By the way, that's called satire. Get over it.

Have you tried turning it vertically? If it is, have you tried horizontally?

The DRE is extremely common, especially in older model PS2s. Now, there is a DIY ways of fixing it, but it's slow, tedious, and not at all guaranteed to work. If you have a PS1 and the games still play, use it. When it gets to the point that PS2 games don't play anymore you'll probably just have to get a new console.

PSOne doesn't seem to want to play any PSOne games either, lol.. is it possible that there is some sort of unknown substance stuck to the bottom of my Disks that are making them hard to read? o-o
