I have long since ceased to pay attention to any of the actual lyrical content of the song, as it is a severely limiting influence on the imagery the music summons, and I have basically envisioned every facet of several image sequences to go along with this song, perhaps the best of a extremely polarized discography. The band is godawful, in many ways, what with songs like "Animals" and various others, but there are six or so that I can abide.
I am not one for self-sacrifice (I have yet to locate more than one or two individuals for whom I would even consider laying down my life), but if I were to become someone's savior, it would ideally be in the company of dark skies, dark circumstances, and dark dignity. No punches pulled; the meat of the imagery here would involve my being physically ruined in exceedingly vicious fashion, followed by one sort of supernatural kamikaze or another. The person had better be damned well worth it. :laugh:

His peace-on-earth songs were sometimes his worst songs by a mile. I can't listen to Earth Song (or indeed, see the video) or Heal the World without laughing my head off.I love MJ's peace-on-earth songs. It'll be a long time before we see another person bring the world together with music.
