Of course it's possible, they don't cancel TV shows when their ratings are exactly 0. If a significant ammount of people stop watching or listening, the media outlets will do what they can to get them back. As I heard on an episode of Boston Public; the media is a business free to sell whatever product they want, and the people are free to buy or not buy it. And if they want to buy crap, that's their problem. Just like it's their problem if they elect a crooked congress and president (And Supreme Court? Well some crooked dick they elected could appoint them to serve his interests if it's not directly set by the people).
