You'd be suprised. Midgardsormr is the place to be! =P

I've deleted two level 40 characters before, it's not that hard to get back up to level 40 for one job. Also, I'd suggest just taking a couple of weeks break before you start again, if you start again. Because you're probably more burnt out than you realise.

And as for my new class... How about Monk?
It can be worth it, depends what kind of mind set you have on the game. Try out a few other MMORPG's if you would like, and see if this game is truely what you want to come back to. (I would not suggest WoW, however... I left for it, and it goes from really good at level 1, gradually decreasing to extremely crap at level 60)

Monk is a good, fun and easy class to take. It does get a bit hectic later on with finding parties, unless you have a static. My dear friend ended up leaving FFXI for good because his MNK (at level 45 I think it was) didn't get enough parties to keep going at a constant rate, he worked really hard to get over 4 million gil worth of equiptment too (not including rare/ex stuff).

It's up to you though, I know cases where monks do excellent. =)
Just a matter of what kind of play style you want: DD, Tank, Heal, Solo, Enfeeble, Buff.
