Yeah, but it's more fun to speculate this way.

The Simpsons VA's creep me out when the switch from voice to voice, when they're on talk shows and all xD.

To strength the point, though, the same girl that does Rikku also VA's for Raven from Teen Titans. Now those are two extremely opposite voices.

She's also one of the Powerpuff Girls, apparently. A pretty versatile actress, but specialising in energetic young women.

She has a very impressive list of credits to her name. Some of her roles are more predicatble (I believe she's Bubbles of PpG, which mirrors Rikku with the bubbly-ness), but some are very interesting.

I don't understand why so many think that because it's Japanese voice acting, it's suddenly better. Yes, perhaps the characters' mouths are originally made to move to Japanese wording, what most people don't realize is that in the process of getting what the Japanese voice actor says to line up, it still isn't perfect. In fact in most cases these days English voice acting, in terms of 'lining up' isn't much worse than the Japanese.
From what I've heard of the English trailers vs. the Japanese trailers, I like the Japanese voice actors more because they just SOUND better. I've generally found that in most anime and video games, the Japanese voice acting is better than the English voice acting. The voices are to sound appealing, I can just read the text to understand what they're saying, and I think it makes the experience that much more enjoyable. If I don't enjoy the voices, it can really annoy me for the duration of the movie, and possibly ruin the movie for me.

There are things I prefer in English, and things I prefer in Japanese. It merely comes down to what sounds better.

Because animation is a far more respected industry in Japan (and one quite often geared towards adults), they seem to take their voice acting much more seriously and thus usually have better quality. We dont get that very often with English voice acting... and dubs can often ruin an otherwise wonderful series.

If you just listen to some English voice-acting, without actually seeing the show or knowing what it is, you'll always be able to tell it's voice-acting and not live acting because everyone's using "cartoon voices." If you listen to some Japanese voice-acting, it's often indistinguishable from the live stuff.

Of course, cartoon voices aren't necessarily a bad thing--just check out Phil LaMarr's performance in Metal Gear Solid 2--so you can't really say that all non-Japanese voice-acting is inferior.

Not all of it, for sure. Even, for example, Cowboy BeBop was done well. But on the whole, it's of less quality. Usually. But there are some excellent dubs out there... and Disney movies often have some great voice acting.

Um . . . talking to me? Knock, knock! I like your VA selections, I know how diverse VAs can be. My beef was with your LA (live actor) listings (i.e. Ving Rhames). Most live actors have only had sparse experience in the field of voice acting and thus are not suitable picks.
If your entire list had been made up of voice actors, I probably wouldn't have nitpicked.
Jack: How do you know?

Will: It's more of a feeling really.

Jack: Well, that's not scientific. Feeling isn't knowing. Feeling is believing. If you believe it, you can't know because there's no knowing what you believe. Then again, no one should believe what they know either. Once you know anything that anything becomes unbelievable if only by virtue of the fact you now... know it. You know?

Will: No.

If Demolition Man were remade today

Huxley: What's wrong? You broke contact.
Spartan: Contact? I didn't even touch you.
Huxley: Don't you want to make love?
Spartan: Is that what you call this? Why don't we just do it the old-fashioned way?
Huxley: NO!
Spartan: Whoa! Okay, calm down.
Huxley: Don't tell me to calm down!
Spartan: What's gotten into you? 'Cause it sure as hell wasn't me.
Huxley: Physical relations in the way of intercourse are no longer acceptable John Spartan.
Spartan: What? Why the hell not?
Huxley: It's the law, John. And for your information, the very idea that you suggested it makes me feel personally violated.
Spartan: Wait a minute... violated? Huxley what the hell are you accusing me of here?
Huxley: You need to leave, John.
Spartan: But Huxley.
Huxley: Get out!
Moments later Spartan is arrested for "violating" Huxley.

By the way, that's called satire. Get over it.

i think they should just keep it subtitled cause pretty much anytime someone messes with the language of the original it gets messed up so keep it japanese with english subtitles and don't bother with the gobe hollywood actors who wouldn't know what to do if you gave em a final fantasy game

I don't have any hangups about Japanese vs English VAs, I like both for the most part, and tend to watch anime twice, once dubbed and once subbed...But the voices for Sephiroth and Vincent Valentine sound so incredibly sexy! I would personally rather cast Steven Jay Blum as Cid (he tends to voice more layed back, informal characters), David Kaye as Vincent Valentine (plays more cool and distant characters, like Vincent in the game), and Crispin Freeman as Sephiroth (ambivalent characters, low, powerful voice, with a touch of harshness, like you might find in someone who's had to shout out orders on a battlefield), but I doubt they'll be that sensible..
Veni, veni, venias, Ne me mori facias, Gloriosa, Generosa (Come come oh, come, Don't let me die, Glorious, Noble).

Ving Rhames gave a good performance in Driver 3, so he's had some VA experience... but it might take some work for him to sound like he's as big as Barret. Maybe it's just me, but I've long imagined Barret with a deeper, rougher voice - more like Mr T or Michael Dorn.
But everyone's got their own preferences, so no cast list will please everybody. So long as the acting is good, I'll be happy with whoever.
I've got no qualms with either English or Japanese voice acting... I'm subtly amused by the general presumption that there are no bad Japanese voice actors, and few good English ones.

I don't watch a lot of anime, but there are some shows that I just like the English acting better. Such as Cowboy Bebop (though both are fine) and Rurouni Kenshin. I highly dislike Kenshin's Japanese voice. *shrugs* To me, his English voice sounds more realistic.

I agree though that there can be better dubbing both ways. Again, there are plenty of anime/video games that the Japanese is better, IMO. But it seems like some fans like the Japanese voice acting better JUST BECAUSE IT'S JAPANESE (cough otaku cough) and that seems a bit biased to me.

Again though, so far I'm pretty much liking the AC Japanese voice acting. Same cast as from Kingdom Hearts, right? I liked most of the American Kingdom Hearts actors... well, not Mandy Moore, she made Aerith sound really breathy, but I thought Cloud was very good.

It's highly unlikely the KH voice actors for Cloud, Aerith, and Yuffie will be returning to do AC.
