    Default Questions about Espers

    I would like to know what's the effect of the Ragnarok summon and what is the best esper in the game.

    Ragnarok summon is one of the best espers in the game if you're running it on an emulator.

    There's some place in the game with smoking chixxorz and Samurais and using the Ragnarok Esper can turn them into Ribbons and Genji Gloves.

    However, if you can't use save states to repeatedly retry battles and the esper, FAR more likely than not, the effect won't work, and then, if it works, FAR more likely than not, you'll only get a potion or 2 out of the ordeal.

    The decision really lies in whether or not you're hell bent on getting Ultima from Ragnarok. (That IS the spell it teaches)
    There is another way, but it's something of a secret, and it'll take more time to get your characters the Ultima spell by that route.

    The Paladin Shield teaches Ultima, not Ragnorak. Ragnorak doesn't teach a spell and Illumina teaches Pearl.

    Yeah... I didn't realize that I was so unclear.

    Ragnarok the magicite teaches Ultima. Ragnarok the sword teaches nothing, but I believe randomly casts Flare.

    Unless you want to go through a royal pain in the ass to get the Paladin Shield (and even if you do), I'd take the magicite. Those are the only two things that teach you Ultima.

    The Atma Weapon is better than the Illumina anyway.

    It doesn't take that long to get the Paladin shield, if I can do it, that's saying something xD

    I never missed having Ragnarok around to summon, and I've never chosen it before, so I can't say much. But having extra swords is fun!

    Well you said that the Ragnorak Sword teaches Ultima, what did you expect?

    Settle down buddy, he didn't say it was the sword that taught it.

    I know. I don't like the smart-ass responses about being clear when he wasn't.

    Espers have no worth as far as summoning them goes. the main point to espers is learning magic and that makes the Ragnarok esper far better than the sword if you ask me.

    The Paladin Shield teaches Ultima so I don't need the Ragnarok Esper to learn it.
    And summonig Ragnarok is really annoying as you hardly get anything useful. And even if I was patient enough, I wouldn't need the stuff I'd get, because I use to have loads of Ribbons, Economizers, Marvel Shoes, Exp.Eggs etc. when I enter Kefka's Tower...

    On the other hand it's a sad feeling to miss one esper...

    That too.

    Plus, it's not the idea that you may not get something good from it, it's the fact that (when it works) it takes one enemy off your hands. This is useful in the dinosaur forest, when you get pincer-attacked by trannies.

    That sounds so wrong...

    Ragnarok sword isn't anything too special, but the Illumina sword is beyond awesome, mostly because it gives +50 to evade and magic block. Combine that with the Paladin Shield which gives +40 to each and that character will pretty much evade everything and be practically invincible.

    Of course, due to a bug, Evade is worthless. But you all knew that, right?

    --> Ragnarok Esper
    - little chance to morph Enemies into useful items
    - teach Ultima

    --> Ragnarok Sword
    - damn big "be a pain in the ass for your enemies" sword
    - casts flare once in a while along with your attack (NO MP)
    --> bet it at the colosseum for Illumina (casts Pearl/more often than ragnarok casts pearl, holy-based sword)

    --> Paladin Shield
    - Ultima, ultra block, ultra-magic-evade, sup. Def, absorbs some elements, halves some elements... NICE!!!

    try to get the cursed shield and fight some superhard enemies like peepers on solitary island! it won't take too long, although you might be dispatched by those badly bad monsters

    take the sword, the Esper really suckxs
