Default What city should I start in?

Hey, gonna be an (male if anyone wants to know) elvaan, warrior, that will eventually be a paladin. I heard bastok is boring. I probably will go with san'doria because supposed to be fairly good and I will get the ring. I will go to any other city however if anyone wants me to. I know some ppl are in windurst i think. I just wanna be with some eoffers.
Oh and any what would work well as a sub for a warrior. Thanks for any help.

    So tell me, why learn?

I've been part of Bastok and Windurst, and have been to San d'Oria. (can never spell that...) And Windurst is my favorite. I spent alot of tiem in Sandy, so I do knoe enough about it to say this. Bastok is alright, it's the worst of them, but it's not BAD. Windurst is the best. And the rings aren't that great, but if you want it, then go to Sandy.

Windurst is the besT!! Sandy is kewl too.The worse in peoples opinion is Bastok because its enviroment has been stripped mined and they never restored it back to normal. Thus it looks like crap.A crappy wasteland with smog..But if oyu love roleplaying an industrialist you'll like Bastok.ME I love Windurst because its simply beautiful.Sandy is good also because it gives you a Knights of the Order feeling.

Also the best thing about windurst is if people did what we old skoolers from windurst did.Was at lvl 10 we goto the mazes and do MMS then we PT in bubu on certain things and then at lvl 15 or 16 we sailed to Selbina and PTed in valkrum for awhile. You get more adventure that way.I started PTin gat lvl 6 in the Canyons. It was pretty fun beatin gup small animals then when i reached lvl 9 went to the mazes i didnt head for valkrum until lvl 15.Had tons of fun.But that was back when they did that. Now newbies are told to play it safe so they do and they make there epic run to Mhaura to catch the ferry boat to Selbina.Going through bubu at lvl 10 sucks. No one even solos do rarely so its just overflowed with mobs.

    But Windurst owns.!!

Actually the Gustaburg reigon was decimated in a war against invading Sandorian troups before the Crystal Era. The Bastokan forces used firearms to beat the Sandorian Knights back pass La Thine.

Buburimu = Valkurm in many respects. Take a party and fight there, its better than Valkurm ever will be. Mandragoras(pansies), Birds, Rarabs, and Dhamels are significantly weaker than Valkurm's Lizards, Flies, and other stuff there with much less competition. I say if you can make a party there, go to it.

A WAR before 30 and even beyond that will work primarily best with a MNK sub especially if its your first time through the game. Sandy would be a good choice as well being a PLD/WAR.

Windurst is the best. And I am a War but when I get to lvl 30 I will switch to paladin with war sub-job. (I have heard from everyone that I've asked that PAL/WAR is a good combo)

I cannot stand Bastok, for reasons stated above. It's just so fugly.

Windurst is definitely the best looking of the cities, not to mention the largest of the three. Some people complain it's hard to get around, but once you know where everything is, it's not so bad, especially with the tarus that will warp you across town.

I've also started in San d'Oria. It's a good city, though it can get slightly annoying. The San d'Orian NPCs have an Elvaan superiority complex that can get quite irksome. On top of that, while the BGM is nice at first, it gets really annoying quickly, though I suppose all the BGM does, which is why I turn the in-game music off and pop in a CD.

I'd go with San d'Oria if you're going to go for PLD. The monsters in Ronfaure are more suited to melees anyways, and the San d'Orian ring is nice too.

What city would be better suited to someone who is starting out as a WHM (probably BLM sub when I get there) and who eventually wants to become a beast master?

I actually like all three cities and can't decide between the three. Though Bastok is slightly depressing. I tend to go with the underdog, which is why it is a legitimate choice.

As nice as Windurst is, it almost feels too nice and prosaic. San D'Oria is nice too, but I suppose I could be irked by the Elvaan surperiority complex as well. What would all of you people recommend?

Windhurst for all your magical needs... Is anyone in the Remora Server?

If you're starting as a mage, Windurst is the best place to start. As Bastok and San d'Oria have cheap melee equipment at the NPC stores, Windurst has the cheap mage equipment at NPC stores, not to mention the two magic shops have a much better selection. It'll save you money in the long run because the AH can be quite a bit more expensive.

Thanks for the opinions . I'll start at Windurst. Now I know what sub I'll be until I get paladin too.

Well Windurst is a good place to start out for reasons above also in sar. region the mobs are nice and easy.Good for both melee's and magic users. If your looking to be Thief then later Ranger. This is the place to be.I started out as a WAR in windurst though.ME and my friend just explored alot and adventured as we leveled .Man I rmemebr at lvl 13 we were walking to Sandy and we were in La theine. When all of a sudden a Ram attacks us and we figh tit.My friend was a Elvaan WAR with an Axe nice axe.I had a Scythe.Anyway we fought it and my friend Iife died and i had my last 3 HP and i hurry up (befor ei used macros) and used my Weapon Skill which ironicly killed the Ram.It was pure luck but i felt a sense of accomplishment since most poeple kills there first ram at lvl 25-30/.
