Default Favorite Book Character

So, what book characters really capture your attention and appeal to you, either in a good or bad way?

A few of mine are probably Drizzt Do'Urden from the Forgotten Realms series and Belgarath and Polgara from the Belgariad and Mallorean series. There are more but I'll more than likely remember them much later, and thus post them then.

Scout and Atticus Finch from To Kill A Mocking Bird, Lockwood from Wuthering Heights and Prospero from Shakespeare's The Tempest (well, the script is in a book).

Dirk Pitt from all of Clive Cussler's novels. Or, at least, the ones he wrote by himself, and not the crappy other series.

Raistlin Majere from Dragonlance is my favorite character of any book ever. He's the most complex character I've ever encountered, and he's very much both good and evil at the same time. It's hot.

Jo March from Little Women. Is that how to spell their last name? I don't really remember.

Haven't been able to really feel as close to any other book characters. Perhaps maybe Sirius Black from Harry Potter.

Edit: A character I was really annoyed by was Becky Bloomwood, the main character in the Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella. That character annoyed me so much because I kept thinking "when will she stop being so unreasonable?" and "why is she putting herself in such situations?" yet I got so relieved when things actually did work out for her.

*points to name*

Other great characters: Haplo and Alfred from Death Gate Cycle(also by Weis/Hickman, same as DL).

Yes. Excellent thread. Time to get my nerd on. (But then again, this is a message board for Final Fantasy)

I'm warning you this will be long, so I'll try to help.

---Ivan, from Enchantment; he has so many qualities that I admire in a person, and even though he's not real, he's a great guy.
---Christopher and Kate, from The Perilous Gard.
---Calis from The Serpentwar Saga. Completely feel in love with him right away, and I was very disappointed to in SHards of broken Crown that much. But
---Jimmy and Dash, from the same series, make up for that.
---John Snow, Sansa Stark, Theon Greyjoy, and Jaime and Cersei Lannister from A Song of Fire and Ice.
---Cazio Pachiomaddio da Chiovattio ( ), Stephen Darige, Leoff Ackenzal, and Neil MeqVren from The Kingdoms of Thorn and Bone.
---Sabriel, from the Abhorsen Trilogy.
---Jimmy, from Salem's Lot.
---Morgan from The Riddlemaster Trilogy. For exactly the same reasons as Ivan. Also, Deth from that same series. Beautiful.
---Ducon from Ombria in Shadow.
---The marquis from Neverwhere.
---Lindo Jong, from The Joy Luck Club. All of the older woman are hilarious, but I love Auntie Lin.

Damn. I just have too much love.

I'm a big fan of Nynaeve Al'Meara from The Wheel of Time.
That attitude... that strength... that temper!
A strong vein of independence, combined with sarcastic humour and a genuinely compassionate desire to use her intellect to help others. A beautiful character, in my opinion.

Oh, forgot two of the best book characters of all time: Zaphod Beeblebrox and Marvin from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

Well, since Hunter Thompson is the center of a lot of his stories, him for sure.

Lucy Pevensie of The Chronicles of Narnia
'Jack' of Fight Club
Tender Branson of Survivor
Alex DeLarge of A Clockwork Orange

and that's all I can think of offhand. Effort sucks.
