I never really formed an opinion about Wakka for some reason. I spent most of my time hating Tidus and Yuna and being thankful the rest of the cast were at least tolerable. But after reading this thread I've decided that I like Wakka. Him and Rikku did seem to have personalities I liked. He was just a lovable guy. And Rikku was adorably cute to me.
I like him, ya? You know?

At least "Ya" sounds like some kind of Islander lingo, with a distinct accent. (I know, because I come from an island, and we have our own lingo, and a distinct accent!)
"You know", however, sounded stupid, and was completely overused.
However, it doesn't spoil the game or anything. And neither does Wakka, or even Maester Seymour for that matter!! I just completed both FFVII and FFVIII, and I'm now playing FFX for the 3rd time, and its my favorite. By far.
