Final Attack Materia

Can someone explain how exactly this works? I just got it and equipped it with Cloud, in a joined slot with Phoenix materia. That way, if my party gets wiped out, Phoenix brings me back. I thought this was good, so I tried fighting Emerald WEAPON with that materia equipped. I was doing fine, until Cloud got killed by him. Of course, Phoenix comes in and Cloud is back. However, Emerald does his ultimate 9999 attack that kills all three of my guys. I expect to see Phoenix come again...but he never came!? I thought the paired materia was always going to cast/summon? Is it just once a fight that it works?

The number of times it works depends on what level the Final Attack materia is at. It can work up to five times.

5 times? There's no limit. At least not with a mastered one. That's how I took down Ruby Weapon doing one-on-one with Cloud. I had Life attached with it. I know I died more than 5 times...

There's no limit.

If that were the case, the Final Attack materia would make you invincible.

I... kinda was. So what the heck recharges it? o.O; Maybe elixers? Pretty sure I was using them like crazy...

Nothing recharges it. You probably miscounted or something.

Possibly. It's been years. But I thought I was dying left and right. So if I didn't even die 5 times I did better than I always thought ^_^ Regen and elixers = friend...
