Thats not the definite price by the way. Sony has even said they havent mentioned a cost yet. Thats a guess. I reckon we'll see it not as expensive as people state.
I reckon.......$ 499 in US, and £ 400 here in the UK. Everywhere else doesnt matter.
But think about it this way, when they claimed that the PSP would go for $ 400, well, we all know it didnt.
Oh, and people dont seem to realise why its going to be expensive. The Blue-Ray functions will make the machine so damn good you wont believe it.
Seeing as the PS3 will be a Blu-Ray player as well as a console. Its going to be a bargin that you are getting the two in one. I mean, do you lot know much Blu-Ray players go for ?
    Answer : Alot

Just look at the prices of these machines.
Even if the PS3 was $ 1000. It would still be a bargin for what your getting.

Also, you Americans should consider yourself lucky, the real victims are us in the EU who have to pay more for these machines than you lot do.

It costs way too much. Why would I want to spend all that money when I could have a new computer with it? I hope the price goes down by a lot eventually, or else no PS3 for me.

I cant believe no one is getting excited over the fact that the PS3 will be region free. The only console out of the big three that will have no region lockings.
Eat dust Nintendo, PS3 is going to storm the Industry.

Im just curous, why would it really matter if it played blue-ray discs. I mean ya they can hold a lot of memory, but the only use i can think of for that much money would be like... storing your entire hard drive on. so why would it be usefull for a system that may not ever use the full potential. im not saying sony is wrong, im just wondering what they are going to do with ble-ray discs that they cant do with normal discs. maybe they have some really good ideas on what to use it on and i just havent herd them yet, but it really seems to me like their is going to be all this extra money spent on something that will rarely be used to its full potential. if someone could enlighten me, please do so.

Blu-Ray supports true HD, so you get better everything than a normal DVD. And there storage capacity is huge compared to normal DVDs.

There are still load times. Blu-ray disc read speed is between 36Mbps and 72 Mbps (4.5MBps to 9MBps) which is equivalent to about an 8x DVD-ROM drive running at full speed. For comparison, the PS2's DVD-ROM drive runs about 1x - 2x on average.

(Note: This is based on current Blu-ray technical information. The actual disc speed may be different when the console releases.)

They cannot hope to sell at that price and win the console war. I would guess that the launch price will be considerably less. The $500 range seems fair enough, given that the PS3 will play Blu-ray discs, which alone is a moderately expensive feature.

No, because as far as I'm aware they havn't.

George Fornays (who works for SCEE) said what many believed to be confirmation of the price. But that turned out to be a mistranslation.
