    Default terror laws at gleneagles

the police today confirmed that the anti-terror laws will be sued for the protest at the g8 summit.

this for me is outrageous. to use laws meant to prevent terrorism in a public order matter is a total breach of what this law was intended for. to me it seems like a slow growth from what this law was intended for.

the g8 protest is the same as any other protest and it should not fall under these laws. to me it is a breach of human rights and a breach of the legal process.

to me it just seems that these laws are becoming more widespread and it scares me to think that when i go to gleneagles i will be faced with them.

is it just me being alarmist or are these laws just becoming too widespread for us to no longer be worried about their use?

Well as long as the protest doesn't break any of the laws that are put up to keep protesting in a non-violent manner and the such.. I don't really see why they should want/have to do this.

They are "sueing" for the power? that means it hasn't yet been granted right? so perhaps they'll be denied.

The right to make demonstrations and protests is an important one. Perhaps you are right to take alarm.

it's not to stop the protest.

it will be to police it. but still is it really recessary. and most of all is it on a slippery slope very close to a very steep cliff?

    Definately on a slippery slope...

But why would you need terror laws to police a protest? Can't police do that alread, you know keep an eye to make sure that nothing gets out of hand?

*shrug* terror laws just seem pointless in this case to me.

It's an extremely high-security situation, and they're using extremely high-security tactics. I find no problem with this.

actually it's not high security at all.

there is a protest on the 2nd of july in edinburgh. that is a whole 4 days before any will be in glenagles which is a mighty 50 miles away.

the protest on the 6th is at auchetarder. which is about 20 miles away.

the chances of anyone at these protests at bush (even though i would love the chance) are few and far between. in fact they are none.

the difficulty of this protest is no different from any other. it will be on a massive scale. but that is not a problem. we have dealt with this problem before. we did it before the iraq war. we did it with may day.

but for some reason becuase some big wigs decide to come to my country all of a sudden if i am arrested in a months time i will not be arrested as a suspected criminal, i will be arrested as a possible terrorist. if i am stopped and searched (without cause) under section 44 that will be done under the terrorism act.

if it's because there are alot of people in one place. then blowing up a school would be easier.

there is no security risk this july. there is amount as a security risk as hogmanay. we have the same amount of people then. and they are all tanked up. edinburgh hogmany has never been a security risk.

a protest 20 miles away from 8 politicians is no reason to use laws reserved for terrorists.

True, but most politicians are not ruled by logic.

because you buy into the political paradox they created for the masses of neo conservatives to blindly follow them and for you not to complain.

They been over reacting to things like this for years since osama pals went for a flight. Bomb alert at heathrow lets send tanks, yeah great plan tony but what about the people outside the tanks.
