Thread: Problems here

    Default Problems here

I'm trying to install Sonic the Hedgehog CD on my computer, I put in the disc to install it and I got this error message. (see attachment). The installation starts up but right when the software starts looking for direct X the installation stops saying it has errors. Is there a way I can fix this? I think if I can replace the .dll or something it might help.

I'm sure a google search for Kernel32 and SMapLS_IP_EBP_12 entry point could produce some nifty/helpful results.

Vyk, that doesn't exactly help in my situation. I need a precise page or something.

Google isn't beig nice to me today, so I need somebody to look for a Dino2d.dll file in their windows/system folder.

Is your operating system in the recommended game requirements? If the game is older, it may be trying to access a function of the kernel32.dll library that no longer exists in nerer versions of windows. I don't know what Microsoft's policy is on legacy support and breaking compatibility, but it's certainly possible that the function in question is no longer in kernel32.dll.

Ok, I found replacement dlls. I only have one more problem. I ran the game in 256 colour mode and I got this error.

You replaced your kernel32.dll? Congratulations, you've just broken your system even more than it already was

There never was a Kernel32.dll to begin with. The game works now, I found a patch for it. Should I delete the Kernel32.dll file?

Um... Kernel is by default a hidden file. Unless you already have it set to view hidden files, you probably just stuck one in there that's visible and likely therefor windows found it irrelevant. Other than that I'm just talking out my ass ^_^

Nope, you're talking out your rear end Whether it's hidden or not is irrelevant - you try to stick another file in that folder with the same name, it'll overwrite it whether it's visible or not, after asking you. Though if it's ME/XP, WFP should restore the correct one either almost immediately or upon reboot anyway and get rid of whatever junk you attempted to put there.

In any case, I don't want to touch Joel's PC because it sounds completely retarded up after what he's been doing to it
