Little Forewarning help

I just bought Kingdom Hearts and it looks like an awesome game. Just one question though: Is this going to be a game where I should set time aside and train my characters like I would in a Final Fantasy game, or are we talking KoToR here, where you level up adequetly as the story progresses?

I don't think I ever had to spend time specifically to level up, but if you're going to fight some of the optional bosses, you're probably going to need it.

I never spent time specifically leveling up, but I did spend a lot of time looking for rare items you can only get by killing certain enemies, so maybe I don't count.

IMO, it's one of thise games where you're more likely to get killed fighting a random battle then getting KO'd by a boss. . .you'll level up and get stronger, if you train at the appropriate moments. . .as you go through the story, you'll encounter places where EXP is plentiful, so don't worry, you'll be fine

I never trained and leveled up...until I went after all the secret bosses.

No, you don´t have to spend time just running circles and killing monsters. Just go forward with the game but kill every monster you see.

I never overly trained or levelled and I was okay with the optional bosses, but as foa said if you look for rare items and stuff you generally end up levelling along with that, which is useful. I don't think you need to go out of your way to train immensely. The Coliseum is useful too for getting experience doing the Cup's rather than just training.

i trained during destiny islands at the start and it's one of the best areas because if you leave the island at level 10+ then you are eaisily set for traverse town (sorry if i ruined anything there, not sure where you are.) That is basically the only in story levelling up you will want to do (you will lvl up enough during boss fights and the colliseum tounements). other than that you won't need to lvl up, even after you've passed the main story. There are people who have beaten the extra bosses in the 60's (maybe 50's).

I found that I overly trained, just because the system was rather fun to play with. But as long as you don't run too much, you should be fine, unless you want to take on certain bosses.

I find that this depends on several factors. One is how you chose to level up. One of the times I played this I chose to level up slowly (leave at night), which made me have to about 4 or 5 times throughout the game level up because I was just too weak. It's best to level up fast (leave at dawn). Another is what weapon you chose to keep at the very beginning. If you chose to keep the rod, then you aren't going to get an ability called Second Chance until very late in the game (SPOILER)in choosing the rod, I've never gotten Second Chance before the end of the Hallow Bastion. If you chose the shield you'll probably get it by the end of the second world, if that, so the game will be a breeze. And if you chose the sword you'll probably get it by the end of the fourth or fifth world, which makes life easier. But getting Second Chance as late as you will if you chose the rod means that you might have to level up to get your HP higher so that you can survive some bosses. Other than that, you'll probably find yourself killing enemies trying to find items for the sythesis shop, and you'll level up in the process.

I'd like to suggest some good ways to level up, stuff I would've liked to know when I first started playing. First, you might want to start with the Dream Rod, which gives you an extra magic block (easier healing for you and your 2 buddies, plus more magic). In the dream where you talk to the 3 kids, select friendship, to be strong, and being different (I think that makes the game more fun, not too easy but not too hard). In the Destiny Islands, fight and beat all 3 kids, including Riku. Also beat Riku in a few races, until you have at least 2 more points than him. Then ask the boy on Riku's little island to go against all 3. In Traverse Town, beat Leon and in the Coliseum, beat Cloud. Hope you enjoy the game as much as I did! :fencing:
