Keep playing after beaten?

Just wondering, can you play the game on the same file after you have beaten it? I have heard that you can but I wanted to make sure it is true

After you beat the final boss the game ends. In order to continue playing on the file you have to use your save from right before the final battle.

Its the only way to do so im afraid.it sucks a bit though because even though some FFs have new game +'s so in the ones where say none of the main characters dies (excluding aeris of course(the game goes on without her anyway.) uou should be allowed to keep on playing.

What would you do? Talk to people for eternity?

no. id finsh unfinished quests get all the limits materia and get everyone up to lv99 and then talk to people for all eternity.duh!
on ff8 id get all the weoppons do all the side quests get everyone to lv100 get all stats up to 255 get 100 of each magic run around in circles with the no encounter ability andthen talk to peep for all etrnity.it willake aes for me to do one or evry ff play so just use your imagintion.

Why not just do that before you beat the game?
