There's not really a dearth of sci-fi based RPGs. Now westerns, on the other hand, not many of those...

Anyway, if it were just an FF spin-off and Sqaurr was having fun with a series they really like, then I'd say go for it. If it become a series, or FF turned into Star Wars, that'd kinda suck.
