Reuse is very common. Final Fantasy "borrows" ideas from previous incarnations, as well as traditional mythologies. It is very difficult to find a "new idea" anywhere in the world. Sure, once in a while a new idea might come around, but if you really look at it, it is still just an old idea given a new name and a slightly different twist.
