crime rates are higher among black people but.... so is poverty. and so the link between crime and poverty rears it's ugly head again.
or possibly more blacks are wrongly convicted. which considering race issues is very possible.
also the death penalty among black people is higer no matter if you count it in ratio or by numbers.
Hebrews are a minority and there ar esmaller ethnic gorups such as us NAtive Americans we are numbered of about 2 million.lol There were more of us 150 years ago. What happen?WE were killed off nearly to extinction by the US government.
[q=War Angel]Jews often mess around with money more than others do, and they have an obvious knack for it, just to specify about one of the many stereotypes.[/q]This is partly related to the grim history of anti-Semitic discrimination in Europe. In the old days, the Christian majority detested the Jewish minority. Some of the Crusades targetted Jews specifically. Many customs and laws were made in order to make life more difficult for Jews living in Europe itself. In particular, there were laws that prohibited Jews from working in many professions and trades. People were simply barred from working in any particular field on account of their ethnicity or religion. Because of this, many Jewish families became expert money-lenders - a business where there's no 'produce' as such, so it was easier to get away with. This continued for a long time, snd we get the stereotype about Jews being master financiers.
Similarly, in many parts of Europe it's considered polite to remove your hat indoors, especially if you're male. This "custom" was originally created in order to inconvenience Jews.
Anti-Semitism lingered in Europe like a disease for centuries. It's hard to believe that people are still using those same prejudices every time something bad happens. In the past, it was hatred based on religious beliefs. Then it became resentment of a group who were distinguished by their success and resilience... now, it's simply pathetic acts of "lashing out" at those who are different in some way.
It's this kind of thing about humanity that really sickens me.
The situation now is even more tangled than it was before. Anti-Semitism is on the rise again, even in my own 'multicultural' country where prominent Jewish graves were desecrated last year, by neo-nazi lowlife. However, there's a strong reactionary movement too, which tries to combat this discrimination but sometimes gets it wrong. For example, innocent people can be accused of anti-Semitism for merely disagreeing with a Jewish person. This recently happened in Canada when historians disagreed with a reasearcher (who happened to be Jewish) who claimed that Native Canadians weren't treated that badly by the colonials. Another incident I remember was an anecdote from my previous German teacher, who's Jewish. She recalled a school board discussion where the topic of fundraising was brought up... someone thought that her Synagogue might be wealthy enough to help out. She thought this was a negative stereotype - "Jews are money-hoarders" - when it may simply have been an innocent, or even complimentary, belief that religious institutions are wealthy because of their size and success.
Also, when someone disagrees with Israel's state practice or policy, the first response of many is to claim that they hate Jews. The US is a big supporter of Israel not just because of their significant Jewish population, but because Israel's survival depends on outside aid. There was traditionally little enmity between Muslims and Jews - both were attacked by militant Christians during the Crusades era. These facts were noted by Malaysia's outgoing Prime Minister a year or two ago, when he lamented the breakdown in relations between the two religions and called for renewed unity. However, since the new Israel was forcibly created by the West, there was a strong counter-reaction from the Palestinians. Since Israel is the Jewish state, hostility against that state has transformed into hostility against its people, and its people's culture and religion. The re-creation of Israel went from being a matter of surivial for refugees from the war, into the fuel for a new era of ethno-religious rivalry.
'Difference' is at the heart of all discrimination; what more convenient basis for discrimination than someone's cultural heritage and fundamental beliefs?
Humans really do still have a long way to go, I think.[q=War Angel]Too many Arabs blow themselves for it not to be considered a norm, and many Americans are indeed fat, ignorant and love the flag.[/q]None of the Arabs I've ever met have supported terrorism, militancy or religious violence. I'm sure it's different in parts of the Middle East, but I'd hardly consider it "a norm" of the ethnicity. Most stereotypes are imposed or manufactured by others - like the stereotypes surrounding people of the Jewish faith and ethnicity. It's only the stuff that can be backed up empirically - like obesity rates in the US - that have any standing at all. Even then, it's nothing more than applying one negative statistic, a characteristic of the majority, to everyone in a country - which is unproductive.
To sum up... I despise anti-Semitic discrimination, just as I deplore all religious and racial hatred. Perhaps even moreso, because anti-Semitism was a primary policy of the nazis, and I have a particularly strong prejudice against neo-nazi beliefs.
From what i seen, Jews do have alot of political power even more so after WWII(and theres a reason why Hitler did not like them). They work harder and get more money in general and to be honest alot of those that i see my parents associate with are demanding assholes...but we are nice to them anyway if we want more clients =/ Basically alot of them that i seen are just that i am better than you attitude more often than not and when we say we dont like it, we are labeled as racist and nazi-whores. At least thats what i see around my area. I have every right to not like to finish an real estate appraisal report in one day when its 40 miles away from home -_-; Doesnt mean i wont do it but i mean you cant expect me to like it either...
Now another reason i feel is that since Jews in general work hard, they get the same crap that most asians do...they must work hard and have lots of money and we dont like them because of that...>_> It does happen and i seen some of that..but it could be just San Francisco here and the people i met. Well in that case it is more a discrimmination thing =/ I personally have nothing against Jews...unless they demand a report from me at an unreasonable date >_> but i must do it anyway or risk losing buisness and money.
Everybody loves to discrimminate! Something we all do..

Uh...of course there must be something of truth in the stereotypes, but even if based on empirical fact, judgment based on prejudice is not something I like. For example, I don't like the Jewish stereotype. I don't like Shylock from The Merchant of Venice, I don't like Roth from The Godfather II, I don't like Watto (yes) from Episode I and all those other representations of the characteristics often given to the jew stereotype. OK, I actually like those characters, but not in the "I want them to be my friends" style, more as in "I would hate them in real life but I like them in fiction".
Thanks God, I do not tend to judge people based on stereotypes. If I did, I would need to suppose most people in this forum are fat ignorants who just sit on their asses all day and praise their flag. And I would be a guy with a moustache that loves bull fighting and has his daily siesta before clapping his hands and going "olé, olé", and I have the accent of the puss in boots in Shrek 2...well, the last one is true.
And does it matter Jews have so much power? Partly. It matters they have power, it dosen't matter if they're jew. Well, it matters in the sense that it means that probably the jewish community is to be more benefited in some senses because of the influences of this powerful men. But this does not mean the jews are on some world conspiracy, as some people seem to think, it just means there are jews who are very powerful and are probably bastards, as happens with most powerful men, jewish or not. What relation does the jewish shop owner with Roth (to name a fictional jew)? I don't think he has much relation, other than ethnicity, and I don't think ethnicity was such an important factor in leading Roth to be the head of the exploiters in Cuba.
Blame Google!Dude, I think you just picked the ugliest Paratrooper in the Israeli army.
And on a totally unrelated note...Woody Allen rules. Yet, can someone tell me why he is hated by the most fundamentalist members of the Jewish communities?
Also, Christians aren't allowed to loan money, so they had Jews do that for them. It's not really a matter of intolerance, just a form of symbiosis, so to speak... and money-loanders are always hated 'cause let's face it, nobody likes to return more than they took.Because of this, many Jewish families became expert money-lenders - a business where there's no 'produce' as such, so it was easier to get away with.
They are. Jews are often chipskates, especially the Dutch ones... :PJews are money-hoarders
Now, this one is tricky. Israel represents the Jews and protects them, world-wide. So, Jews and Israelis take it extremely personally if their country is verbally assualted. The State of Israel is the fulfillment (or at least it is, in the ideal) of Jewish values, hopes and needs, a beacon of light after a long history of blood-shed... having it dissed is like hearing someone say bad things about your family, or your mother. Most people don't take too kindly to that. Also, when someone disagrees with Israel's state practice or policy, the first response of many is to claim that they hate Jews.
I wouldn't go that far. Yes, the American aid is a great help especially in the military department, but it's far from being Israel's oxygen of survival. Israel has stood on its ground for thousands of years before America, and I assume it will continue to do so, even without the much appreciated American aid.but because Israel's survival depends on outside aid.
And I've met and heard quite a few who did. Fact is, 100% of the suicide bombers that blew themselves up lately have been Muslim Arabs. Fact is, a lot of the rigch people in the world are Jews, far beyond their percentage in the population (this one is heard a lot when discussing Jews). Once again I say, stigmas are often true to a point, and there's a reason they're created. Of-course not all, or even most Arabs are terrorists, and there are lots of poor, under-educated Jews... but it's always the strong minority that speaks for the quiet majority.None of the Arabs I've ever met have supported terrorism, militancy or religious violence.
So your taste in books is different than those in the Nobel Award commitee. You claim they pick Jews as winners because of feelings of guilt. I claim you're <BSing>.I've read some, and I know people who have read many of the other ones.
Read it again, and you'll reach the conclusion that Shem=Jewish, or at least ancient Medditernean origin (Mesopotamian, Asyrian, Babylonian, etc, civilizations from which the Jews descended, esp. Mesopotamia), and those no longer exist. So, Saying 'anti-semitic' is the same as saying 'anti-Jewish', now-a-days.What's your point?
First of all, 'fundementalist Jews' is a problematic concept, as it doesn't really exist. The closest thing are the Orthodox Jews, and they don't watch TV or movies, mostly. Now, Woody Allen is a well-known Jew and a respectable film-maker and actor, and when he, as a Jew, says <bad things> about Jews as a whole or the State of Israel, it hurts other Jews more so than if some non-Jew said the same things. What would hurt more, emotionally - getting punched in the face by a stranger, or your own father\good friend?Yet, can someone tell me why he is hated by the most fundamentalist members of the Jewish communities?

Even supposing you're right (and you're not), it doesn't change the fact that an 'antisemite' is someone who is against Jews. Not Arabs, Mesopotamians, Americans or hedgehogs - just Jews.A semite is a person who speaks a semitic language.
This includes non-jewish people such as arabs, and arabs are not considered jewish.

On the other hand, maybe "fundamentalist" is not the word you like, but to amplify the meaning more, I could say "fanatical". And fanatical jews exist, as exist fanatical christians or muslims, or communists or capitalists, or whatever religion, ideology or system that exists. I bet even fanatical Jedi exist somewhere on Earth. Hell, there's even a Maradonna church with fanatical followers.
I know anti-semitism is prejudice or hatred against jews.Originally Posted by War Angel

As I've said before, someone of ancient mediterrenean origin, of which only the Jews still exist (all the others are extinct by now). But could you please explain to me what a semite is then?

Actually, that may be quite true. Because of the powerful Jewish lobby, the US aids and supports Israel more than it would've normally, and that makes a lor of other nations in the world quite upset.
