The genre of Dirge of Cerberus has been a source of near constant speculation and discussion since the initial screens were released. The above link, however, provides information describing DoC as a "Gun Action RPG." While Yoshinori Kitase suggests that the title was influenced by Half-Life, he also notes that RPG elements, including a menu, will be utilized.

The link also provides information on Crisis Core, the E3 FFVII demo, and series expansion to the PlayStation 3.

I hope they do a good job mixing the 2 and that the story behind the game is not just an excuse for shooting everything you see. On the other hand, being this a Squaresoft game I have hopes that they'll put a story good as usual in it.

The last shooter/RPG hybrid I played was Deus Ex, and the RPG elements seemed a bit overwhelming to me. But then again, this will most likely be a Japanese-style RPG...meaning watered down to the point that anyone can pick up and play it, not just the hardcore RPG folks. So I'm very interested in it. And since it's inspired by Half-life, that makes it all the better. I am excited.

Yeah on the new website you can see it clearly says something in japanese followed by "RPG" in the info section ^^
