I forgot to take it before the earthquake in Mideel, is there any way i can get it now that the city is destroyed?

You can feed the white chocobo for the materia before of after Mideel is destroyed.

I'm trying to the the materia also, but Mideel is already destroyed. But here is my problem. I've been talking to the chocobo constantly, but I keep getting that blasted message, "Chocobos act cold to humans....."
Any tips or pointers?

You need to feed it a Mimett Green (it will ask for a Salomen Green or something like that) and tickle it behind the ear.

How do I get the prompt to feed it? That's what I'm having problems with.

Do you have the green in your inventory? You should get the prompt when you talk to it.
