Communism is the goal socialism strives for. Every communism is supposed to initially have started as a socialism and then gradually developed into a communism. Socialism is "Communism lite". It sounds less harsh as it is less harsh. Also, when speaking of socialism and communism, what Stalin did is entirely irrelevant. Stalin was not devoted to the ideology of communism. He just used it to be able to run the Sovjet Union as the totalitarian leader he was. There are no good examples of communisms as it is an impossible ideology to enforce on a national level.
