'Urban myths' and rumours have a lot in common. However, urban myths are often more annoying, because they're so widely proven, even to the point where people claim they are "scientifically proven".
The following are just a few of the many untrue/unreal stories that people accept, just because they appeared in an email forward or a cheap newspaper:
- That soft drink cans are often contaminated with deadly diseases from rat urine
- That bacteria won't cling to food that's been on the ground for less than seven seconds
- Bonsai kitty
- Nostradamus predicting Princess Diana's death, the September 11 atrocity and whatever else
There's plenty more besides. Video game rumours are fun, but only when you KNOW they're unsubstantiated. There's nothing more frustrating than when you believe something might be possible, and you waste a great many hours trying various 'fool-proof strategies' to achieve something quite impossible *cough*revive Aeris*cough*

While this statement isn't entirely false, it isn't entirely true, either. The aluminum cans in which soda is stored in contains carcinogens. However, you'd have to drink ungodly amounts of soda in order to actually get cancer this way.
