Well, if people have high expectations for the game and are disappointed by the demo, it's more than likely a sign that your game won't be very popular. It's presumable to suggest that if your game isn't going to live up to the expectations of your viewers, then NOT releasing a demo will raise their hopes only moreso and they will be that much more disappointed.
Point: A demo release would be advisable, particularly if this is your first (or one of your first) experience(s) in game-making.
