it was sephiroth who killed her, not the real sephiroth, the one made by jenova to free jenova! and it seems that Sephiroth must have been busy trying to prepare jenova to attack cloud and the party, so thats why he was late at the attack, and because he tryed to make cloud kill her, but he felt to strongly for her to kill her.

If I remember correctly the first part of the storyline when Sephiroth is condeming himself in the castle he pulls the weird robot thing {forgot it's name} that was guarding Jenova had a hologram of Sephiroth which we see later in the game and he {the holigram} wore a helmet that said Jenova so really Sephiroth got combined into one being with a conjuncting mind or it was Tifa in a very good cosplay costume. Also For the Sephiroth he thought he was his own mother I know that sounds crazy but maybes thats like a dream sequence except he thinks it's real and since he has such a strong spirit he could mentaly be at a diffrent dimension or he's really crazy.

And here I am, chiming in with the obligatory note that it was not in fact Sephiroth who killed Aeris at all, since he was currently encased in materia in the Northern Crater. Most likely, it was the shapeshifter Jenova, who chose to assume the form she knew would most strongly resonate with Cloud, although there are indeed alternate theories about who, exactly, it is that is responsible for Aeris' death.

thats right Jenova-Death says something to the effect of her being Sephiroth's body the whole time he was just the dude holding the game controler only he was incased in materia and couldnt move so that shoots the game controler idea

SK-ing someone in front of other someones, that's the way to do it. the Tenchu way is way more hilarious, and i don't enjoy Aeris dying. all in a guess, but it sure was an SK.

That wasn't a hologram. JENOVA's body was inside that tube. Yes, it looks similar to Sephiroth, but that's to be expected considering the graphics of the game, and considering that JENOVA's Cells melded with Sephiroth's body when it was a developing fetus.

Thanks for the compliment, Seph. Basically, it just means that it was JENOVA's body from the Shin-Ra headquarters in Sephiroth's form, and -- being that it was JENOVA and not actually Sephiroth -- it didn't know who the hell he was, though Sephiroth did.

If the Jenova on the boat was in Sephiroth's form then what the hell did we fight because I remeber seeing Sephiroth fly off (like he will through the rest of the game) and at that same moment he drops Jenova's arm? (I think) then we fight Jenova-Birth. that just dosn't make any sense

JENOVA is assuming Sephiroth's form, hence why peices of JENOVA are dropped and why the creature you fight is always JENOVA and never Sephiroth.
