Squares console history...

Back in the good ole days Square had Nintendo locked down.
Final Fantasy, FF4, and FF6 were all awesome games. We also had Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, Final Fantasy Adventure, and the FF Legend games.

Then when the Playstation was released, Square jumped ship and made its games exclusive to Sony. We then had FF 7-10, Legend of Mana, Chrono Cross, FF Tactics, and Vagrant Story among others.

Now in recent years, Square is kinda split down the middle.
We have FF12 and the sequel to FF7 still on the PS2. Yet we have Sword of Mana, Children of Mana, FF Tactics Advance, and FF 1-6 ALL on a Nintendo portable!

Whats with Square and totally abandoning the Gamecube, except for the mediocre Crystal Chronicles? And whats with Square and totally abandoning the PSP leaving it utterly destroyed by its rgs on the DS/GBA? And why has Square shunned the Xbox even though its been very successful?

It seems as if Square said, 'What console is #1 in the world? The Playstation! So lets only make games for that!.'
'And what handheld is #1 in the world? The GBA/DS! So lets make handheld games only for that!.'

You said it right there.
If they're going to make a decision as to what console to make games for, of course they're going with the most popular consoles, which would help them sell more games.

For instance, chances are, most final fantasy players now have a playstation, as opposed to an X-Box. Some have both. In any case, the avid final fantasy player most likely has a playstation, so of course they (Square) will make the next final fantasy games for playstation. That's how they'll sell more copies.

I respect Square for giving all theres good to pretty much every console, even Xbox is getting FFXI, but boo for them treating Europe like something stuck on the end of there shoe.....

Yes it is, but its funny how Square is simultaneously supporting and shafting both Nintendo and Sony.

And Xbox? Phhh. They have the saddest list of rpgs out there. Their next generation system is getting FFXI... something the PC had 2 years ago.
