i think i played all the FFs in numerical order (FF7 - FFXI). and i don't believe in any dreadful misfortunes if i play FF8 b4 FF7. unless there's a sequel, maybe you should play the prequel first (FFT b4 FFTA - i didn't do so).

all is your choice. but skipping FF8 is like dissing the whole series ! you will be doomed...
