Thread: Is the Guide Needed??

    Default Is the Guide Needed??

I was just wondering if FF 6 has all those less than obvious secrets like some of the later FFs, (7-10) so that you need a game guide to get the best stuff. I plan on starting it as soon as I finish FF 8.

There may be a few things you'll miss otherwise, but really it's pretty straight-forward. With later games I find myself missing so much unless I use an faq, not so with VI.

Well, I was told about all of the powerful stuff, so if you really want to you can look at a FAQ, but I really don't think it too necessary. Simply asking around these forums should tell you all you need to know if you really need it.

    Default I love FAQs!

To be honest I never could've beaten this game and a lot of other ones without reading a FAQ...
When it comes to RPGs I'm too obsessed with completing it perfectly.
Every side quest done, every item found, blah blah etc.
There are some well-written FAQs for this game and I'm grateful for the people who took the time and effort to help out neurotics such as myself!

Like with any other RPG, you can complete the game without a guide, provided you're competant enough to plan ahead somewhat and explore thoroughly.

I'd have to agree with Maxx Power, here.

Especially with FFVI. You don't need to do much after about halfway through--you could go all-out and do everything, get everybody, best weapons/armor/Espers/etc., or you could get by with the basics and a couple extra levels. Hell, I've beaten the game with only Celes, Edgar, and Setzer before.

And, as has been pointed out, anything you need to know, you could just come here and find out pretty easily. I'm sure there are plenty of us willing to ramble on about this game.

Theres a lot of things in the World of Ruin that could be easily missed without a guide. Some of it is the best stuff in the game, such as Sabin's Bum Rush blitz.

I did VII without a guide, too, but the things I really wanted to know, I had already knew a little bit about, and what to ask about in forums such as these. When I played X for the first time a couple months ago, I asked for help in this forum, and it worked out pretty well.

As I said, there is no shortage of people here willing to tell you everything you need to know about Final Fantasy VI. Just ask "Hey, what do I have to do for _____ (character/esper/weapon/etc.)?" and you'll have people lining up.

I think it is. I though there were alot of side quests and thing in the game. I found myself missing pure stuff. But if you need the money i'd just look at walkthroughs and stuff.

Honestly, there is very little you would miss if you explore and pay attention to hints in conversations with your characters and townsfolk. At most you may miss some strong weapons, or an esper or two (none of which would be necessary to complete the game, and many wouldn't even be necessary to further the story). Honestly, I didn't own a strategy guide for the game until Anthology came out (I got it on the SNES the year it came out too), and I've never really used a guide for it period. Based on everything I've read, I'm confident that I've explored every nook and cranny over the years, finding almost everything on my first playthrough no less. Like I said, explore everywhere possible, and you'll likely see and experience almost everything worthwhile on the first playthrough without a guide.

I had the SNES version a while ago and now have Anthology, and I've yet to buy the guide. I might buy the Anthology one, just for FFV, but there's nothing I know of that I ever unintentionally missed on VI. Like I said, if there are any questions, there are many many people right here in this forum to help.
