I liked Aeris. Great character, in my opinion. I also regard her as the "hidden hero" of the game, equal to Cloud - if not more significant. Her back-story, and present story, were compelling; her courage and curiosity were endearing characteristics too - as were her random outbursts of sweet-naturedness.
Laughing at a tragic death......i doubt that. It's like having your mother die of cancer and then cracking up laughing afterwards. Even if you hate your mother, when she dies, you're not gonna be happy. You're gonna feel sad. This kind of is true with Aeris' death as well. I did feel very sad, if not because of the whole atmosphere and the post-death ceremony. Sure she wasn't my favorite character, but just the way she had to die was tragic. And the fact that she was the Planet's only hope added to all that.
Aeris did have a good personalty, much better than a lot of other characters in FF games (like Quistis, Freya, etc.), so you cant say her personality sucked. I do agree Tifa has a better personality, and i probably would have been just as sad if she would've died.
In a way, Aeris' death made me like Tifa more. Before it i was like, "Whoa...shes hot & very nice" but after the death, Tifa really was there for Cloud until the very end. She was a loving, caring, and just terrific character. So, IMO, Aeri's death brought Cloud & Tifa closer.

I can agree with this part only. Tifa was the only character I really liked in FF7. But, while I didn't laugh or smile.. I didn't feel that sad by Aerith's death.Originally Posted by GooeyToast

Atleast me and my brotha and my friens was like: "Oh. Aeris died. Just the same. She sucked. I never used her anywa, becasue she sucked. So little attack power, and who needs a healer since there are potions. Or any magic anyeways since there is attack wich does 4x the damage that magic does."
I used Aeris all the time, however, that was after I brought her back to life.
