Fetuses absorb one another all the time. This is a special case, of course, since the fetus that got absorbed survived instead of just being diluted prior to birth, but it's not surprising.
I thought they were just making that kind ofup when I was watching the Venture Brothers.

I find instances like this somewhat blur the lines between living and non-living. If I was the kid who was 'housing' the fetus, I certainly wouldn't wanna be hanging round after the op to see what had just been extracted out of my body.

The phenomenon itself is somewhat common, but it's amazing that it could stay alive for 16 years.
