I do actually agree with you, to some extent. A lot of my relatives, including my mom, is over weight. And it does bother me, and I don't see any excuse either, BUT---
You have to realize that it's more than just "being fat". Something is very wrong in these people's lives, that needs to be dealt with before they can go out and run/exercise, and actually lose weight. It's more of a mental problem, and not a physical one. Yeah ok, someone "comfort eats"; but WHY? Because this person's dad abuses them, or some such reason. And that problem needs to be taken care of, and confronted, before they're ready to lose the weight.

EDIT: And of course, you have to realize some people are more shapely than others, naturally. That doesn't make them fat, or unhealthy. Just different. Like we all are.
