Let´s just conclude it by saying that that soil is from Esthar/Mordred.I am sure.I think I don´t need to show you a screenshot.That´s easy to spot.And since this soil just appear on a single zone of the world it is accurate to say that Squall was at Esthar.And since we saw it becoming a flower field it seems that Squall was lost on time.And since Squall and Rinoa remains on the same place when it happens(Squall was even lying on the floor) we should conclude that Ah,Ah,Ah,Ah,Ah,Ah...... thought for yourself.This even applies if time compression is finishing here.None of the theories people post on here can deny what I am trying to show whether they are thruth or wrong.
Definately people says that Squall was lost in time and was brought back by Rinoa.I also always believed this.It´s just that people never noticed this was Esthar soil and never stop to think they remains on the same place.And Esthar itself symbolize Squall´s wilderness so just don´t come up with this argument.The soil is Esthar one´s.Of course Squall was lost on time but it don´t change nothing.It just adds an interesting conclusion.A very interesting one.

THE NEXT IS LESS IMPORTANT.

If I were to bet I would bet that Squall was near Esthar Sorceress Memorial(due to personal reasons).But he just can´t see it due to the time compression cloud(or wall or whatever).He just was at the left of the Memorial(considering we are turned in the direction of the entrance).
Or maybe over the mountain considering the respective Lunar Cry twist things a little.This would explain why it seems that Squall was on an inlet.

Future, Squall was stuck in a time-warp which was shifting after his memories, thoughts and emotions. This much is clear from the twisted images of Rinoa, and the transformation of the desert into a tiny rock.

Now, this time-warp cannot be said to contain ONLY features from the real world. In other words, although the soil may look similar to the soil of Esthar, this does not mean it is the same soil, simply because the time-warp isn't the real world.

HOWEVER, even if we assume that the time-warp contains only properties of the real world, and that the soil IS the soil of Esthar, you still cannot say that after time compression ends(or more correctly, when Rinoa embraces Squall and they both escape the time-warp), they are still in Esthar. Why not? Because Squall wasn't stuck anywhere in the real world. He was stuck in a timewarp existing beyond the real world, which means that once it's over, he could end up anywhere on earth. Furthermore, he escapes the timewarp in the midst of a flowerfield. You argue that the only place that has soil like the soil in the time-warp is Esthar, and that the time-warp therefore is a twisted Esthar based on Squalls thoughts. Using the exact same logic, we find that the only place where we see a flowerfield like in the ending is by Edeas Orphanage, so by your own logic, he wakes up by Edeas Orphanage, and NOT in Esthar.

To push the point further, arguing that the flower field in the ending is the same place as the rocky plains of Esthar is like arguing that rocky soil = flower field. Is that the 'interesting conclusion' you speak of? It certainly is very interesting....

Moving on, why do you say that Esthar symbolises Squalls 'wilderness'? Please provide an argument to back this up, or it will be dismissed.

wait wait.... i was thinkin bout the whole time warp thing and... it came to me, maybe the time warp tore squall and rinoa apart in time, but they were still in the same place. like, as rinoa was at the flower field near edeas house in the present, squall was in the same field except it was in the way future or way past, when there were no flowers at that spot. just an idea, not a big deal at all lol, jus wonderin if it could be a possibility. geez we're all nerrddsss xD

This is like when Squall travels to Ulti´s time.He was on his time and then goes to Ulti´s time through Time Compression.
Time Compression ends when Rinoa hugs Squall taking them to the "present".That´s it.

Esthar symbolyzes Squall because he is introverted and keep silent about his feelings.He has many sad thoughts inside his head,like how Ellone had to leave the orphanage making him alone and all that.It´s difficult for one person to penetrate his little world.However Rinoa found a way in.Doesn´t this last line sound familiar to you?

Alright dude, You said there is no time compression going on during Disc 4 and just time travelling. How are you going to end time compression without starting it. And if you said the "WOTC" ended during the game, then dun you think the characters will be warped back to their own time? And how do they end "WOTC" when "X" is still no where seen in action.

But whether the standard theories were right or not it don´t matter.We can reach the same conclusion anyway.

So that would mean that Squall was at the flower field, at another point in time, at time when it was barren and rocky.

I always thought that went without saying, seen as how they're at Ultimecia's castle in her time, which is near the flower field.
