well i'm only 17 so while the fallof communism falls within my life time (it happened the day before my second birthday and so the papers with it on i have kept and are my birthday) it cannot remember it so doesn't count.

i'm left with very little that has actually made a huge impact. alot of it is fairly modern.

    9-11
    today really.
    the asian tsunami
    pope's death
    diana's death

devolution was never a big thing for me. neither were most of the wars because i was too young to comprehend.

diana's death i don't care for. but i remember it very clearly. everything kind of stopped for a while. it was like sacred. same with the pope.

Erm, well, this is only from what I can remember!
    1) 9/11
    2) The Tsunami
    3) The Pope's death
    4) Cloning, it just seems so... futuristic but it actually happens!
    5) Live 8! It's going to make a massive impact and I hope it really can help make poverty history!

    1) Changing the state exam papers in Navan (2005).
    2) Death of Pope John Paul II (2005).
    3) 9-11 (2001).
    4) Ireland's campaign against Sellafield (2002-2003).
    5) The tsunami

I was born in 1987, so the fall of Berlin wall, the fire at Chernobyl Reactor No. 2, the GIGN assaulting the Air France plane all happened in my lifetime but I don't remember any of them so they don't count.

    EDIT: Added 5)

I don't mean to criticize you, as I am just curious. Why do you feel that the death of one man is more important to the death of hundreds of others?

because he was a hugely powerful and influential man. it was huge news.

also world cup or football wins do not change this world. and being athletic is not world news.

I don’t know about importance, but these are the events that pissed me off the most when they cut into my Australian television viewing schedule:

    1) 9-11 ( It took two days for the channels to return to normal broadcasting!)
    2) Some land slide somewhere ( can only remember that it cut into my Saturday morning cartoons, and most of the afternoon)
    3) Diana’s Death ( I think they cancelled a show I like in order to put on some stupid documentary about her)
    4) Tsunami (wasn’t in the country for this one, but apparently it was broadcast continually for an entire day)
    5) When Saddam Hussein was captured (meh, a few hours, nothing much)

I'm so glad I have Foxtel now, so I don’t have to put up with any of this crap invading my viewing schedule!

I'm a Catholic but not an American. I just didn't feel the same empathy with all those that suffered in 9-11 as I did when the Pope died.

I'm assuming this is world events, not personal events.

    9/11 occurs.
    Columbia explodes.
    Bhuj earthquake.
    USSR collapses.
    The Internet. Good one, ed.
