Grin thinkpad x30 fan won't spin in windoze

I've always thought it was weird that the fan would stop spinning at the 'choose your o/s to boot' screen. My co-worker said to hit the pause button during boot-up and lo & behold the fan keeps spinning!

So...windows doesn't detect the fan? What do I do?

    Speedfan no detect either xD

Maybe it is detecting it but switching it off (adjusting it's speed dynaimcally), because Windows decides the machine isn't hot enough to require the fan on at that point in time? The only time the fan is on in my thinkpad (R40) is when I'm using the CPU rather heavily so naturally it's hotter than normal Does the fan come back on if you start doing something like playing games or video encoding or something else CPU-hungry?

And you got a multi-boot system or something?

I've seen the fan turn on while windows was running..once. Otherwise it just runs fanless until zap the psu or whatever gives out and the system shuts down.

And the multiboot system is really a system restore option -- it's just in the boot.ini instead of say, 'press f11 to run system restore'
