I'm not sure, but I think you might have to use them on K.O'd characters.

they're like phoenix down only you use mp, and Life2 revives 2 characters

There's not much to figure out about it. And the pressing the select button on the magic menu screen gives you a description of every spell you have.

Life- same effect as phoenix down
Life2- reveives a KO'd character and fully restores HP

Thats it right there.

Life, revives, Life 2, revives with full hp. Life 2 is pretty useful if your stuck constantly reviving characters to have them killed again right after 5 times in a row :rolleyes2
