It's important to distinguish between Tonberries and Master Tonberries. Since you raise the issue of Morphing (as well as Karma, which is called Everyone's Grudge in FFVII), I assume you're referring to Master Tonberries (which Morph into Ribbons). A Master Tonberry has 44,444 HP. Everyone's Grudge's deals 10 damage for each enemy the targeted character has killed. Hence, any character that has defeated ≥1000 enemies will suffer 9999 damage.
Tonberries are only found in the Battle Arena. They only occur in the seventh fight of the regular Disc 2 & 3 Battle Arena sequence. A Tonberry has 15000 HP.

wasnt everybodys grudge the tonberrys original attack not karma(not including the pugs from FF6.)also is FF6 the first appearance of tonberry like creatures.the tonberrys in FF6 are a kind of super enemy because at the time in the game they are next to invincible.

Actually, Tonberry-like creatures first appeared in FFV. Translated in the FF Anthology edition as Dingleberries, they had 39393 HP each, an enormous amount for that game. The creatures reappeared in FFVI, where they were known as Pugs. There was also a Master Pug in FFVI, the first example of a more powerful Tonberry-type enemy (Master Tonberry in FFVII, Tonberry King in FFVIII, and so on). Master Pug had the first example of an attack that dealt damage based on a user statistic; however, this attack was not Karma/Everyone's Grudge, nor did it deal damage based on the number of enemies defeated. Rather, Master Pug used Step Mine, one of Strago's Lores, which dealt damage based on the number of steps the player had taken in the game.Originally Posted by boys from the dwarf
