The Enix and Square relationship...
Honostly. Why are there 2 seperate companies that share the same name?? Are they both part of a major company?? It's all confusing. Can someone post why there are two companies, which came first, and why the other was created?? Why couldn't there just be one??

Both Square and Enix got started in the mid-eighties and stayed separate competing companies until they merged to form Square Enix on April 1, 2003. That means they are, in fact, just one company, although, like any company, it has numerous individual departments and groups working amongst themselves within it.

Yes, but the Square departments still run the FF series, and the Enix departments still run the DQ series. There's not very much--if any--intermixture. Which isn't necessarily a good thing: Chrono Trigger, one of the best games ever, was a collaboration put together by a Dream Team made up of the best people from both Square and Enix. Now that the two companies have merged, it's really a perfect opportunity to do that kind of thing all the time.

Hopefully they'll collaborate more on games in the future...although some of the best minds, like Sakaguchi, have left. Wasn't Dragon Quest VIII actually developed (or worked on in some way if not totally developed) by Level-5, the guys who made Dark Cloud?
