Aside from all the ones mentioned so far, I would recommend Legaia 2: Duel Saga.
Suikoden III is by far the best RPG on the PS2, and one of the best all-time.

I also agree about the Shadow Hearts series. They are definitely some of the best games I've ever played. Seriously recommend playing them in order though so you can get the full effect of the sequel.
Go out and buy Valkyrie Profile for the PSX. You can play it on your PS2. That's close enough, right?
Anyways, if you wait a bit, you can pick up Radiata Stories which is guaranteed to be better than any of the games mentioned here. Except maybe Suikoden 3.

I've also heard Suikoden III is good, and Suikoden IV is okay.
Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne and Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga.
Star Ocean is worth a shot.
Or you can wait for KH2, Grandia 3 or DQ8.

Yeah, its an SRPG set in the time of Suikoden IV. It might be showing off events before the events fo SIV. I think this game would be better if it were just called "Suikoden Tactics".
