Okay. What is the only password in Metroid that is not a natural result of the system's checksum values, but is instead hard-coded into the game? Bonus points if you know what it does or the meaning behind the words it contains.

Is it: JUSTIN BAILEY ------- ------- which starts you in Norfair with all upgrades, 200 missles and Samus in a bikini? Bailey is a british word for bathing suit so it means "Just in a bathing suit."
Or you might be talking about NARPAS SWORD0 0000000 0000000 which starts you at the beginning of the game with all upgrades and infinite energy and missles. I don't know what Narpas Sword is though.

JUSTIN BAILEY 000000 000000 is as random a password as any other. There are plenty of other passwords that give you the same circumstances; this one was just discovered early on in the game's life and became extremely popular.Originally Posted by medigodoom

For some reason, people really liked the sound of this, so the rumor spread like wildfire, even getting printed as fact in game magazines.
The fact, however, is that "bailey," at no point in history, in no country or province, was ever a colloquialism for "swimsuit." Professional linguists have looked into this matter specifically, and it's just not there. And even if it were, there would be no way a programmer living in Japan and speaking only Japanese in 1987 could ever know about it. Justin Bailey isn't a particular person who was close to the Metroid team's heart, either.
The password system in Metroid allows for literally billions of such "messages," but neither Justin Bailey nor any other was ever intentional or possessing any special meaning. If JUSTIN BAILEY were intentional, then it would either have to be hard-coded, which it isn't, or the entire password system would have to be based upon that one password, which it isn't. The system is based on 000000 000000 000000 000000.Yes, NARPAS SWORD, followed by zeroes or blanks, is the password. It's hard-coded into the game and does something no normal password can possibly do: it gives Samus infinite health, infinites missiles, and every item in the game--except the Wave Beam, since Samus can only have one special beam at a time. The inherent message isn't "Narpas Sword" but "Nar Password." It's named after Tohru Narihiro, the man who converted Metroid to NES format and designed the password system that replaced the FDS version's save system.Or you might be talking about NARPAS SWORD0 0000000 0000000 which starts you at the beginning of the game with all upgrades and infinite energy and missles. I see, I have sometimes wondered about that Justin Bailey thing. That post was quite informative. Do you want to ask another question, Kawaii? I can't think of any.

No, I think that was a pretty good finale.
My question is: How many Ice Beams are there in Metroid II?
Rye made this!
3. The first one in the first area containing multiple metroids; the one inside the tall corridor where all the beams are located for a second time and each room as you go up contains a better one; and lastly in the final area, in the ceiling room to the right from the large cavern. If you decide you can't beat the Queen Metroid and need to leave, you fall into this room from above.Originally Posted by medigodoom
Yeah. That is true. I guess I will ask another, then.
Q: In the first Metroid game, what is the Mother Brain reffered as?

THE MOTHER BRAIN THE MECHANICAL LIFE VEIN
Yay! And I have a decent question, too.
The Un-Named Orange Suit in Metroid Fusion is accesible in Metroid Prime.
How do you access it, and what is it called?
Wow, I'm stumped. I've only played the first half-hour if MP because I don't have a gamecube. I played it at my friends house. I bet Kawaii knows.

I bet I do, since I posted the answer before the server change.
To obtain the suit, you just need to enable the Fusion Suit in the Metroid Fusion Connection Bonuses and then get to the point in the game where Samus gets the Phazon Suit. The Phazon Suit is replaced by the orange suit, but it's called the same thing due to laziness and the fact that the orange suit doesn't really have a name anyway.
